The project “Aesthetics vs Information” refers to the contemporary overload of information, therefore, it offers to change the meaning of „aesthetic“ and „information“ assigned a posteriori to certain phenomena or things and challenges the traditionally established communication values. The aim of the project is to find out whether the aesthetic components can serve as actively, strikingly and comprehensibly as the informational message.

This project reveals the tendency of art to increasingly become an informational and promotional object, which is “supervised” by fashion. Today the relevancy of the art is measured by its ability to present current and relevant issues of the social life, i.e. by the scope of its informational density. While idealising the reality, we often associate art with the “beauty” concept, placing aesthetics first and neglecting its informational aim. However, only the constantly changing one survives; and the most rapid changes are seen in the field of information. Therefore, contemporary art often balances between hyperbolised aesthetics and conceptual images, which, on the contrary, are based on the dissemination of information. So, maybe the aesthetics really goes against the information?

“Aesthetics vs Information” draws spectator’s attention to the increasingly growing public reliance on the information distorting the traditional aesthetic categories. This project, thus, offers to interpret the concept of “fight between aesthetics and information” as art’s response and solution to the problem. The aesthetics and the information in this case are only counterpart equivalents of perception and art evaluation criteria. The art project focuses on various dimensions of remaking, “rewriting” of the ideas using aesthetical and informative media chosen by the artists. Moreover, the project conceptualizes the transformation from one form of expression into another by using installations, objects and video works, performances, paintings, photography etc. The answers to the following questions could be provided by them: “Only the information?”, “Only the aesthetics?”, or “constant remaking of the remake’s remake..?”

Project “Aesthetics vs Information Vol. 2” is the second part of the international project (Russia and Lithuania – Latvia – Estonia). The first part of the project, curated by Constantin Bokhorov, was presented at Klaipeda Culture Communication Centre, Lithuania, 08 10 2010 – 14 11 2010.
