Thanks to Aliina here is her original text of the article about our exhibition (Sirp, 18.11.2011) in english:

Denes Farkas and Taavi Talve: Footnotes 2

The concise press release to Denes Farkes and Taavi Talve’s recently de-installed exhibition at Draakoni Galerii, “Footnotes 2″, offered little more than a footnote. The annotation itself referred to nothing but its own definition: “A footnote is a piece of text which, for some reason, cannot be accommodated within the main body of the document and which is therefore placed elsewhere. The main rule in the use of footnotes: Do not use a footnote if you can possibly avoid it.” The statement expressed the essence of a footnote as a detached—ironically, both undesirable and yet vital—component of a document. Notably, its detachment operates a dependence of a specific duality: it is always referred to from a text (“the main body of the document”) and it invariably refers to another one (a different document or an external concept). In its twofold role as a signifier, the essence of footnotes folds in between the text that it represents and the text that represents it.

Aliina Astrova: Dénes Farkasi ja Taavi Talve allmärkus

November 18th, 2011

Allmärkus on kahekordse rolliga tähistaja. Tema tähendus jääb kahe teksti vahele: üht kirjeldab ta ise, teine kirjeldab teda.

BEYOND in KUMU 7.10.2011-8.1.2012

September 24th, 2011

Look at my face: my name is Might Have Been; I am also called No More, Too Late, Farewell, thus Edgar Auber phrased his, according to Giorgio Agamben, pretentious dedication on the back of his photograph, given to Marcel Proust in 1893. Appropriated from Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s sonnet, „The House of Life“, this memorable dedication became the leitmotif of Proust’s life, a guideline that hunted the writer, a synonym of love, memory and remembrance, as well as an evidence of Proust’s authentic passion for photography. Following the promiscuous life of pictures, the exhibition BEYOND refers to Auber’s dedication and considers it as a unique definition of photography which contains reflection upon time and its fragmentation, performance and its exigency as well as a distance and its gesture of separation.

* peale Monumentaalgalerii lühikest ülevaatamist (10.7.2011) astusid Taavi Talve ja Dénes Farkas Vanemuise mäest alla. Ülikooli raamatukogust möödudes ütles Taavi Talve “terve elu on mul arusaamatuks jäänud, miks Lotmanil vuntsidest vett purskab”. Dénes Farkas naeratas endamisi.
